EAST FORT LAUDERDALE

Welcome to East Fort Lauderdale

Florida's Very Own Venice Awaits All Who Call It Home

Fort Lauderdale is named for Major William Lauderdale, as well as the many forts that were built during the Second Seminole War in 1842. However, it is its location, just 30 minutes out of Miami, that makes it the place to be for many residents and visitors.

For others, it is the proximity of majestic beaches and its reputation for being the "Venice of America." Indeed, Fort Lauderdale has 165 miles of waterway access throughout the city. Because of the "on the water" feel everywhere you travel in East Fort Lauderdale, homes and other buildings are mostly Mediterranean in style with a little modern flair. It is something that drives home its rich history, which appeals to a large variety of people.

As a district in the Miami metropolitan area, and a much less crowded environment, East Fort Lauderdale is the best of both worlds for its residents. Whether you travel to the bigger city or stay close to home, there's never going to be a shortage of beaches to explore and activities to take part in.

Local Lifestyle

Residents of East Fort Lauderdale can enjoy many delightful amenities. They can wake each morning and set off on a new adventure, whether it's riding or walking down palm tree-lined streets, or boating. You can even let someone else take the wheel if you want to relax and travel via water taxis.

No matter what you want to do, there's always something to be enjoyed at your leisure. This is something that residents truly enjoy since there's nothing they must travel to enjoy.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

If it's entertainment you want, East Fort Lauderdale has you covered. There are fine dining experiences all over the area, and each promise to satisfy even the most refined taste palette, but even that pales compared to the outstanding shopping endeavors you can be a part of.

For instance, you can visit the Galleria Mall, which is an open-air shopping mall that was built in 1954. There's an eclectic variety of stores in this mall guaranteed to satisfy your desire to spend the day shopping. Another fantastic place to wine, dine, and shop is right on Las Olas Blvd. In this area, the car is optional because you can walk along the tree-lined sidewalks and simply enjoy the sea breeze flowing over you.

Ocean2000 in The Pelican Grand Beach Resort has foods that will tantalize your taste buds.  The restaurant is romantic enough for date nights yet sophisticated enough to host business brunches. If you're seeking something a little more casual but exciting for your mouth, Thai on the Beach is also located nearby.

Things to Do

Throughout the year, people can stroll along the beach, but there is more to this coastal town than the beach. There are events held frequently that you may want to take part in. Some of the most popular events include:

If you love art, the Art Walk Wilton Manors may be ideal for you. It is an event that takes place every third Saturday of the month and allows people to display their artistic creativity on the sidewalk along Wilton Drive. If you prefer being inside when you view art, the NSU Art Museum may be more enjoyable. Here, you can walk casually around the museum to enjoy a variety of artworks created by local artists. Beyond that, throughout the year, there are other special events that come to NSU, ensuring you never have to see the same thing twice.

Taking a Ft Lauderdale River Walk is another way that people can enjoy all the best that East Fort Lauderdale has to offer. Although not an event, per se, there's always something going on down on the riverfront. There are Segway tours, water taxis, and more to enjoy. If you don't get your fill of Florida's natural beauty here, you can visit the Flamingo Gardens and Wildlife Sanctuary. It is the perfect way to see Florida the way it was meant to be seen and covers an outstanding 60 acres of beautiful gardens. You will also be able to spend a little time looking at some very fascinating wildlife, all of which are native to Florida.

Schools

Residents of East Fort Lauderdale are part of the Broward County Public School district, which is the sixth-largest school district in the nation. All schools in the district are fully accredited by Cognia. It is a feat that makes it the second-largest fully accredited school district in the country and proves that children are in excellent hands if they live here.
